Home Decor Style Defined

Why Define Your Style?

This series is meant to help you define your style.  It’ll also help you define the style of your friends and family members, or choose style choices for seasonal, entertaining and party décor.  Honestly, it is going to help me as well.  In the listings manager on Etsy there is a spot to choose the two most applicable décor “styles” to categorize your item.  It always makes me a little nervous as I wonder if I am making the right choices.  Will the wrong style choice mean my item won’t show up in the right search feed?  What if I’m using the wrong style and mislead someone?

That made me wonder if you go through that style dilemma when you choose decorations for a big event, Holiday or even just your own home décor choices.  What about choosing gifts for your friends or your mother-in-law?  Do you panic a bit trying to really understand her style so you can choose the perfect gift that will ensure her complete devotion forever and ever?  I decided the only solution is to investigate each of these styles and get a better understanding of them, for my sake and for yours.

It’s A Series

My plan is to create short posts that help us all understand each style and link those posts in this lists.  That way you can use this post as your go-to index any time you need a refresher.  I’m going to create a Pinterest board for each style and link to it, so you can get a visual of it as well.  Be sure to follow the boards that fit your style or your friend’s styles.  Those style boards might give you some real gift-giving, home décor and party planning insight.

Defining the Styles List

First I typed up the list of all the styles that Etsy has listed.  These are by no means all the styles ever thought of, but I thought it was a good well-rounded start.  If you want one added to the list, just post your suggestion in the comments.

One note about the styles on this list, there are some styles that are actually trademarked.  One of those is Shabby Ch!c.  So Etsy has Cottage Chic listed as a style in its place.  I’m not sure why they don’t have styles like “Americana” or “French Provincial” listed.  Hopefully, as we work our way through this list, we will realize the reason for some of their omissions.  Feel free to post suggestions for additions in the comments and I’ll add them in for future posts.

You’ll know which ones have posts already, because they will be a link.  I hope you find this series, fun, informative, and that it helps you define your style.

Blessings,

Lauree
