Waldorf Style is Simply Surprising
Some of the research I have done for this style series surprises me; Waldorf is one of those. Honestly I had no idea what it meant. I thought maybe it had something to do with the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. It turns out that Waldorf is the exact opposite of the decadent style of the Waldorf Astoria. What surprised me even more is that Waldorf is actually more of a LIFEstyle than a home or personal style. Did you already know that?
What It Is and What It Is Not
The Waldorf lifestyle is just as much about what it is not as what it is. It is not anything faux; especially not plastic, synthetic or particle board. It is natural wood, cloth, wool, glass, and metal. It is not chemicals, processed or commercial. It is organic, natural, homegrown and handmade. Waldorf reminds me of the rustic style defined in an earlier post, but much simpler, with more light and gentler.
It’s a Choice
Living the Waldorf lifestyle is a choice and I imagine it would be a difficult one at first. Many of the blogs I read while researching the Waldorf style had their stories of how and why they had come to this decision as well as the transition they made. I don’t mean to make it sound so radical. It’s really quite the opposite. It’s choosing to create a nourishing home, that will encourage creativity and peace.
I especially loved the posts at The Magic Onions, start with this post, but make sure you roam around her blog and read more.
