The Retro Style Recipe
I think if you took a little Kitsch, a little Resort, some Vintage, a bit of Hollywood Regency and a lot of mid-century modern and mixed it well, you’d have the perfect recipe for Retro style. It’s fun, flirty and somehow comfortable. I think the show Mad Men brought on a resurgence of retro decorating. I loved his apartment!
The Many Colors of Retro Style
Honestly I cannot list all the colors of retro style, well I could but this post would be way too long. Every color in bright and bold hues is appropriate for a retro home decor. Retro is about pink tile bathrooms, bright yellow Formica tables, black and white checked tile floors, aquamarine cabinets, terrazzo counter-tops with aluminum edging and a pistachio couch.
Other Retro Style Elements
hairpin table legs
record cabinets
wallpaper
low pieces of furniture with strong lines
fur or shag rugs
chrome…everywhere
unusual lighting

Does Retro appeal to you? I think the version of it with less color and more strong lines best suits me. I dream of a pink kitchen one day, but more a pale, subdued pink – not the bright pink tile of the 50s. If Retro does appeal to you check out the Pinterest board I created for you so you can get a good preview of Retro style.
