Entry Redo Continued – Another Little Project
I so enjoyed the chalk paint mirror makeover that I wanted to do another little project, plus the mirror looked awesome on the wall, but something was missing. I wanted to add a little something extra to the space without taking up any floor space. For one thing, since this is a high traffic area the less on the floor the better. I tried a small semi-circle table against the wall, but I was always afraid my sweet, playful don’t-know-their-own-size boxer babies would run into it.
Almost Perfect Wall Shelf
Finally, I found this awesome wall shelf on clearance at Home Goods. It’s a little dinged up and the gold won’t work in this space. The white marble top of the wall shelf is perfect with the flooring and white woodwork. So I had another little project to do – painting the gold metal on the wall shelf to make it match the mirror.

From Damaged to Delightful
Cleanup Tip
After deciding WHAT to do to the shelf the next step was to clean up the dings and marks on it which is probably what made Home Goods put it on clearance. I love simple cleaning solutions. Using steam or vinegar are two of my favorite ways to clean just about anything. The other cleaning trick up my sleeve is just as simple, rubbing alcohol. It works magic on pet stains on carpet, food stains, and more. I use it to clean the table chargers and china I purchase for my Etsy shop. It’s also great for removing adhesive and price tags. For this little project I used rubbing alcohol to remove the black scratches from the white marble.

After cleaning off the scuff marks and taping off the white marble I was ready to transform the gold metal. For this I used the same paint sample that I used on the mirror (you can read about the mirror redo HERE) to paint the gold. After a couple of coats of paint I had perfection! Time to hang on the wall.
No-Mess Drilling
Now for one of my favorite tips. Making and re-creating is so much fun. One thing that is not fun is cleaning up the mess. So my strategy is to prevent as much mess as possible. Hanging heavy mirrors and wall shelves requires drilling and that makes a mess. My “trick” is to hang a plastic grocery bag under the place where I am drilling. The bag catches the dust – so no mess.

Double-perfection! What do you think?

Of course, I love it! I’m a little partial. It makes me smile every time I walk through the entry.
Do you love it, like it or hate it? I’d love to hear your thoughts or answer your questions, just leave them in the comments at the end of this post.
Blessings,
Lauree
